Work Experience

Work Experience is a vital part of our careers programme at QEHS. All students are encouraged to take part in work experience for one week during Year 10 and Year 12. Students find these placements valuable and help them make choices about their future career path and often experience a workplace for the first time. Students are provided with support and guided through the process step by step every year. Information is delivered to students during assemblies, our PSHE programme and through shared experiences from our older students about their own work placements.

What is Work Experience?

Work experience involves going on a short term placement with an employer, to observe and work alongside people as they go about their daily tasks. You will develop skills, contacts, and learn more about the kind of career you would like to do. Work Experience is not paid and cannot be your usual role in your current place of work.

Business Involvement in our Work Experience Programme

If you are a business who would like to be involved in our work experience programme, we would love to hear from you. By participating in our work experience scheme, you are not only providing young people with the skills and confidence they need but also building a stronger local economy and future workforce that will benefit your business.

Below are quotes from other local employers about our students during their placements:

We found the student to be punctual, very smartly and appropriately presented, very polite and courteous both with our team, but also with customers and members of the public, both in private homes and public sector situations and with professional office staff in other companies.

The student was an absolute pleasure to have in the office. He was enthusiastic, willing, and highly engaged throughout his time with us. He spent time across several departments, and I received only positive comments from everyone who worked with him. He showed maturity beyond his years and is a credit to himself, his family, and the school.

We were fortunate to host an excellent student who made a great impression during their time with us. They were engaged, confident, and showed a genuine interest in the work. They got involved with tasks from day one, asked thoughtful questions, and carried themselves with a polite and professional attitude throughout.

We fully recognise the importance of work experience in helping pupils make informed career choices, and it is heartening to know that our involvement supports your efforts to prepare them for their futures.”
“The student was very engaged throughout her time here, showed a genuine interest in HR, the employment law aspects in particular, and was an absolute pleasure to have around. Her enthusiasm and curiosity were clear, and she made a positive impression on everyone she interacted with.
